Celebrate Leadville History Month this April!
#AllAboard is the call from the conductor as the Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad sets off on its high alpine journey from our historic depot. Come along as we ride the rails with the faithful guidebook: “High Line to #Leadville, A mile by mile guide for the Leadville, Colorado and Southern #Railroad” by Doris B. Osterwald.
Mile 151.2 - “The historic depot the red brick depot located at the corner of 7th and Hazel Streets was completed in January 1893 during the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) ownership of the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad (DSP&P). It replaced a small frame passenger depot built soon after DSP&P reached Leadville in September 1884. The ground elevation of the depot is 10,208 feet.
Present day – The LCSR depot is your starting point. Located at 326 E 7th Street, here’s where you can purchase your tickets, peruse our gift shop for that perfect memento of your trip, or a great gift for your favorite train lover. There are also plenty of snacks and drinks to enjoy from our outside benches with beautiful views of Colorado’s two tallest peaks!
The Leadville Train is Open Memorial Day through December. More details can be found at our website: www.leadvillerailroad.com

Celebrate #April is #Leadville History Month with the Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad as we share some fun facts from Doris B. Osterwald’s “A Mile by Mile Guide for the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad” book.
#DidYouKnow that between 1884 and 1937, trains carry passengers back and forth to Denver on narrow gauge coaches, and freight trains carry golden silver or cool lumber supplies food and molybdenum concentrates. After 1937 the C&S carried molybdenum concentrates in wood barrels assembled at Climax. Later, bulk cars and 55-gallon drums were used. Supplies shipped to Climax included bulk cars of caustic pebbles for grinding (from France and Texas), mining equipment, sodium silicate, pine oil, and Dow froth. This traffic lasts until October 1986, when the last run from Climax was made. So step back in history and enjoy your trip on the Leadville Colorado & southern railroad the last remaining section of the old “South Park.”

In times like these, it’s advice from childhood favorite Mr. Rogers that provides some comfort: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
So here’s an #OdeToMrRogers starring our very own Mr. (Steven) Ayers whom the film crew just happened to capture in his own #MrRogers classic entrance moment, while they were getting the equipment set up for the LCSR Lounge Car renovation video series (more on that to come!) #AllAboard for the helpers!
